An Introduction to Warm Water Fly Fishing in the Owens Valley

Jarett Coons is Owner and operator of Sierra Mountain Trout Guide Service where he teaches anglers of all ages and abilities the art of the fly. Born and raised in Bishop Ca. and of Paiute decent, Jarett is indigenous to the Payahuunadü (Owens Valley) and has spent his life fishing the warm and cold waters of the Eastern Sierra. In 2009, after graduating guide school Jarett returned home from Montana and started SMTGS where he now enjoys teaching others about his home waters, year-round! Aside from being a full-time guide Jarett is also a member of the Solitude FlyCo. design team, writes articles for several fishing publications, is a co-founder of the Bishop Kids Fish Camp, TIC volunteer, speaker/ presenter, and eternal friend of the underdog. Jarett Coons is a true "Local Guide”, and his knowledge of the Eastern Sierra is second to none.

A Discussion on IGFA Fly Fishing Records and Slams.

Kesley Gallagher has been fly fishing since she was ten years old. She has traveled throughout the US, Canada, the Caribbean, Central America, and the Pacific in search of everything from trout to tarpon and billfish on fly. She has obtained 17 IGFA records on fly thus far and enjoys competing in tournaments such as the Ladies Tarpon Fly Tournament in Islamorada, Florida, which she won in 2018. In 2019, she toured the Fly Fishers International (FFI) affiliated Southern California clubs and presented “Introduction to Flats Fishing” focusing on tactics and skills for taking redfish, bonefish, permit, and tarpon on fly. In February 2021, she presented “From Novice to Champion” in a national FFI webinar. She also teaches fly fishing for women every fall with the Southern Sierra Fly Fishers in Kernville, CA, and has been featured in numerous fishing magazines. Kesley currently serves on the California Trout Board of Directors and works for Amgen in Thousand Oaks, CA.

Tom lives locally in Mammoth Lakes and dedicates his life to exploring every nook and cranny of his home waters to help ensure his clients get the best possible experience. Aside from being an avid angler Tom enjoys spending days on Mammoth Mountain with his family and enjoying all the Sierra Nevada has to offer.

Show people a good time.

Educate them on all aspects of fly fishing, from set up, to playing fish, to landing and properly handling and releasing them safely.
Give them the best opportunity to potentially catching trophy fish in the Eastern Sierras.
